Bitter Cherry

Prunus emarginata

A deciduous shrub or small tree native to western North America. It has a slender crown, upright branches, and reddish-brown bark. In spring, it produces small white flowers, followed by small red fruits in late summer. The tree's flowers attract several different types of butterflies. NOTE: These cherries are not edible due to intense bitterness, hence the name.
